In the upper Niagara River just a few miles from Niagara Falls you’ll find the town of Grand Island. This Island town is home to two state parks, golf courses and several area attractions as well as a one-of-a kind store.
Explore Nature and Outdoor Sports
Buckhorn Island State Park – Hike, kayak, x-country ski, bird-watch, or fish in this nearly 900-acre state park and nature preserve. The park encompasses wetlands, marsh, woods, meadows, creeks and riverfront. Free. No restrooms.
Beaver Island State Park – 1,000 acre park. Great place to walk the dog or take a jog. 18-hole public golf course, marina, beach, sledding hill, kayak launches, picnic areas, fishing. Entry Fee is charged Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Beaver Island Golf Course – 18 hole golf course and driving range.
West River Parkway Trail – Brand new 8-mile walking/biking path along the West River with a view of Canada. Bike or walk this scenic view of the upper Niagara River.
Boating – If you’re bringing a boat with you on your trip, you can launch it at Big Six Marina. Kayaks can launch from either State Park on Grand Island.
Island Fun Center – Laser tag, go cart, mini golf, batting cages, arcade, and water wars. Able to host parties and events. Seasonal, may not be open some months in winter.
Mallwitz’s Island Lanes – bowl a game or two with the family and try what many locals consider the best chicken wings in the area.
Kelly’s Country Store – A great place to shop for gifts or just browse. Featuring homemade chocolate made on-site as well as 75 varieties of jar candy. A great selection of gifts from candles to toys to gourmet kitchenware and foods. Also check out the 1800’s schoolhouse on site!
